Developments & plots

Jobs7 min read

A development is the scheme or site container. Plot jobs underneath hold tasks, site diary, files, finances, and snags. Use a standalone job when you only run one site with no multi-plot structure.

Job types

TypeBest for
Standalone jobSingle house, extension, or one-off contract
DevelopmentHousing scheme, multi-plot site, or any project with shared scheme settings
Plot jobOne unit or plot within a development—where operational work happens

Plot jobs inherit scheme-level defaults (contract rules, UK compliance) from their parent development when configured. Each plot still has its own timeline, programme, finances, and snag register.

Create a development

Add from the Jobs list

On Jobs, use Add development (when your workspace has developments enabled). Enter the development name and optional developer or client.

Add plots

Open the development and use Add plot to create plot jobs. Each plot is a full job record for site and office work.

Configure scheme settings

On the development overview, set Contract rules and UK compliance so new plots inherit sensible defaults.

Mark an existing job as a development

If you started with a single job and later need a scheme container:

  1. Open Job → DetailsAdvanced
  2. Choose Mark as development…
  3. Confirm you understand the job becomes a scheme record, not the primary place for plot-level tasks and finances
  4. Optionally create a plot to carry on operational work on the same site

Existing tasks, files, and financial records on that job stay on the development until you move work to a plot manually or create a new plot for new work.

Development overview

Opening a development shows scheme-level tiles:

  • Plots — active and archived plot count
  • Scheme value — sum of plot contract values
  • Contract rules — payment and variation defaults for new plots
  • UK compliance — CDM and CIS defaults for plots on the scheme

The plots table lists each plot job with status. Open a plot to run day-to-day work there.

Creating jobs linked to a development

When you create a job or edit Job → Details:

  • Link the job to a Development to make it a plot job
  • Leave development unset for a standalone job

The job form explains that plot jobs keep their own tasks, files, and finances while sharing scheme context.

Jobs list grouping

On Jobs, group by Development to see schemes with their plots nested underneath. Independent jobs shows standalone jobs without a parent development.

Star a development to pin it in the sidebar like any other job.
