Using Search

Press ⌘ K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows or Linux) to search the workspace from almost anywhere. Use it to open a job, a file, a person, or a settings page without walking the sidebar.

When to use this​

Use search when you know a name fragment (job, customer, file) or a destination (Library, Users, My Work).

Use the Jobs list when you want to browse by status. Use My Work for your due tasks.

Before you start​

  • You are in a workspace.
  • Search only returns modules your role can see. If quotes are hidden for you, quote results will not appear.

Open search

Press ⌘K or CtrlK, or use the search control in the header.

Choose workspace or job scope

Inside a job, search can stay on this job or widen to the workspace. Stay on the job to cut noise. Widen it when you are not sure which job holds the record.

In job scope, snag and RFI shortcuts open that job's Construction register. In workspace scope, they open My Work on the matching tab.

Filter by type

Use the tabs: All, Jobs, Tasks, Messages, Files, People, Site (snags and RFIs), or Pipeline (if that module is on).

What you can find​

Depending on permissions:

  • Jobs, tasks, timeline messages
  • Files
  • Quotes, invoices, expenses, orders, variations
  • Estimates, work items, and activities (when estimating is enabled)
  • Snags and RFIs (open the job register)
  • Pipeline enquiries (when pipeline is enabled)
  • Customers and partners
  • App destinations: Workspace settings, Library, My Work, a job RFI register, and similar routes your role can open

What done looks like​

  • You typed two or three characters and opened the right job or file.
  • Facets cut a noisy All list down to Files or People.
  • A settings search (for example "roles") jumped to Workspace settings → Roles.

Common mistakes​

  • Searching in job scope for a file that lives on another plot.
  • Assuming missing results are a bug. Check your role, then ask an admin to re-index if a migration just landed.
  • Using search as a substitute for My Work when you only care about your overdue tasks.
