RFIs
RFIs (requests for information) live on the Construction tab alongside site diary and snagging. Each RFI has a number, subject, discipline, drawing references, status workflow, assignee, and attachments.
Where to find RFIs
| Entry point | Use when |
|---|---|
| Job → Construction → RFIs | Full register for one plot or job |
| Timeline → message menu → Create RFI… | Turn a timeline message into an RFI with subject, description, and copied attachments |
RFIs belong to plot jobs, not developments.
Discipline field
Discipline means who should answer — the consultant or trade the question is aimed at (for example Structural, Architectural, or MEP). It is optional. Use the suggested values when they fit, or type your own (joint ventures and specialist subs often need custom labels).
Status workflow
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Being prepared; not yet sent |
| Issued | Sent to the assignee or consultant |
| Responded | A response has been recorded |
| Closed | No further action required |
Use the status control on the list or detail sheet to move RFIs through the workflow. Closing an RFI requires rfis:close permission.
When you email an RFI to a subcontractor, draft RFIs are automatically marked Issued (unless disabled under Workspace settings → Subcontractors). A system note is added to Activity & Comments.
External consultants and subcontractors
For recipients without Sitehut accounts:
- Open an RFI (or select several) and use Email to subcontractor (requires rfis:manage).
- They receive an email with full details for each RFI (reference number, subject, discipline, drawing refs, status, due date, and description). Snags on the same share are included too.
- When Include online portal link is enabled under Workspace settings → Subcontractors → Snag & RFI emails, the email also includes a portal link where they can mark responded, upload photos, and comment on issued RFIs.
- Portal comments appear on the RFI's Activity & Comments tab.
- Revoke active shares from the RFI detail sheet.
