RFIs

Construction6 min read

RFIs live on Job → Construction next to daily log and punch list. Each one has a number, subject, optional discipline, drawing references, status, assignee, and attachments.

When to use this

Use an RFI when you need an answer (drawing clash, missing detail, consultant decision).

Use Punch List when the work is a defect to close. Use Activity for a quick note that is not a numbered request.

Before you start

  • You can write RFIs on the plot or standalone job, not on the development.
  • Discipline means who should answer (Structural, Architectural, MEP, or your own label). It is optional.

Create the RFI

Construction → RFIs, or from an Activity message use Create RFI… (subject, description, and attachments copy where they can).

Issue it

Status moves Draft → Issued → Responded → Closed. Closing needs rfis:close.

Emailing a trade marks a draft Issued unless that is turned off under Settings → Subcontractors. A system note is added on Activity & Comments.

Record the answer

When the response is in, mark Responded, then Closed when no further action is needed.

What done looks like

  • The question has a number on the plot.
  • The assignee or consultant can see what was asked, on which drawing.
  • The answer is on the RFI, not only in email.

Common mistakes

  • Asking the question only in a text thread.
  • Raising the RFI on the development.
  • Closing it before the drawing or instruction is actually updated.
Email and public portal

For people without a SiteHut account:

  1. Open an RFI (or select several) and Email to subcontractor (needs rfis:manage).
  2. The email includes reference, subject, discipline, drawing refs, status, due date, and description. Punch items on the same share are included.
  3. If Include online portal link is on under Settings → Subcontractors → Snag & RFI emails, they can mark issued RFIs responded, upload photos, and comment.
  4. Revoke from the RFI sheet. Portal comments appear on Activity & Comments.
